Denomination: Assemblies of God
Our church was a satellite (preaching point) of the Bethany Assembly of God in first avenue Retreat, which was Pastored by the late Pastor Eddie Roman. Pastor Eddie Roman, regarded as one of the pioneers of the Assemblies of God churches within the coloured community was the uncle of Apostle TL Roman, the father of West Reach AOG.
In 1982 Theo and Sheena Roman, supported by relatives and a group of believers all residing in Mitchell’s Plain supported the establishment and the growth of the work. All who were members of the Bethany Assemblies Of God church in First Avenue Retreat.
Services were held in a home, then a member's garage and eventually the church moved to Westville Primary School due to growth. For approximately six years this growing group of believers worshipped in a classroom and became known as the Westridge Assembly of God church. In the late eighties the facilities at the school became inadequate and we moved to the current premises, Silversands Road, Portlands. A multi-functional facility that would not only accommodate our members but also meet the needs of the community was built.
The first church building was inaugurated on 15 October 1994 together with the ordination of our Pastor Theo Lodewyk Roman.
On 5th May 1998 full autonomy and sovereignty was granted to West Reach AOG, by the Executive of the Assemblies of God.
As an Assembly we have experienced phenomenal numerical and spiritual growth over the past few years and our current membership is approximately 700 people. We became one of the catalyst churches in the Mitchell’s Plain region and the Western Cape at large.
Based on the exponential growth we embarked on a building expansion project in September 2007.
We are a vibrant Pentecostal community church, our main focus is family relationship with man and God. To have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ is the only answer that will satisfy the desire in man’s heart.
