Denomination: Roman Catholic
Welcome to the mother church of the Diocese of Columbus – Saint Joseph Cathedral. A Cathedral is a parish, and here you will find us to be a very welcoming parish. I invite you to join us for Mass, for one of the Weekly Holy Hours and other liturgies, for one of our Cathedral Choir concerts, or just stop by for quiet prayer. In any case I pray that you find in our parish family the joy, peace and comfort that Jesus promises to His disciples.
The quality of the Christian Life and the strength of our parish community is a direct result of our being centered in Jesus Christ and nourished by both Word and Sacrament – especially the Eucharist. Jesus invites us 23 times in the New Testament to “follow Him.” Nurtured by the spiritual nourishment of our Savior, we are compelled to “be doers of the word, not hearers only” (James 1:22) which translates into living our faith as disciples of Christ. Our faith cannot be stagnant; we need to live our faith in order to achieve authentic discipleship.
We encourage our parishioners to become involved in the various ministries offered through membership in our parish family. At Saint Joseph Cathedral we believe that the spiritual nourishment we receive from our prayer and sacramental life helps us to be “our brother’s (and sister’s) keeper” within our parish community, in addition to actively reaching out to help others – to love others as Christ lives us.
On behalf of the priests, deacons, parish staff and the entire parish community I warmly welcome you to Saint Joseph Cathedral.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Fr. Michael Lumpe
Very Rev. Michael J. Lumpe, Rector
