Denomination: Roman Catholic
Welcome to St. Jerome's Parish
St. Jerome's Roman Catholic Church opened its doors officially in November 1998. Now St. Jerome's has a thriving congregation at every service with approximately 4000 parishioners.
Our Church is named after St. Jerome (345-420 A.D.) the most prominent Scripture scholar and one of the most learned doctors of the Church. He translated the Old Testament from the Hebrew and the New Testament from the Greek. His commentaries on the Scriptures are hallmark especially his treatise against Helvidius on the perpetual virginity of Our Blessed Lady.
His Eminence, Aloysius Cardinal Ambrozic, signed the Decree of Erection for the Parish, in the west part of Brampton, on August 14, 1990. Fr. Vid Vlasic was appointed founding Pastor on July 1, 1990 and took up the residence on 273 Elgin Drive. We did not have a Church building at that time and in the first year Mass was celebrated in the gymnasium of St. Brigid's School. After the opening of St. Augustine High School in September of 1991 all our celebrations were held in their Cafetorium and Chapel until the completion of our church.
The sod turning ceremony took place on Sunday, February 23rd 1997, and construction began in January of 1998. We celebrated the first Mass in our new Church with our local Bishop Terrence Prendergast S.J. on Saturday September 5th 1998. Our new church was Dedicated by His Eminence Aloysius Cardinal Ambrozic on the Feast of All Saints, November 1st 1998.
