Denomination: Antiochian Orthodox Christian
St. Vincent of Lerins Orthodox Church was founded in 1987 when the Evangelical Orthodox Churches (EOC) in the United States and Canada were invited to become part of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America under His Eminence Metropolitan Philip. His Grace Bishop Antoun travelled to Saskatoon in March of 1987 to chrismate the faithful and to ordain Fr. Bernard Funk, Fr. Larry Reinheimer, Dn. Peter Isaac, Dn. Willie Friesen and Dn. Daniel Guenther to the deaconate. On the following day, Fr. Bernard and Fr. Larry were ordained to the priesthood. After several years, Dn. Daniel, Dn. Peter and Dn. Willie found other places of ministry. Fr. Larry continued to minister to the faithful in Borden Saskatchewan, moving on to Andrew Alberta, and then to Calgary Alberta. In late 1988 we purchased a small church building on Ave. C and 25th St. West where we worshipped until February of 2009 when we purchased an old Presbyterian church building at Ave. E and 30th St.
We joyfully and with some difficulty learned what it was like to become Orthodox Christians in some its many facets during those years. Some of our faithful left us for one reason or the other, and many others have also joined the community over the years. Our Father in Christ, His Grace Bishop Joseph has been a welcome tower of strength for us during the last fifteen years.
