Denomination: Roman Catholic
Welcome to St. Augustine's Seminary of Toronto!
St. Augustine’s Seminary is deeply rooted in Catholic tradition. Our primary mission is the formation of candidates to the Diocesan Priesthood for the Roman Catholic Church in English-speaking Canada. Another important component is the formation of men to the Permanent Diaconate. We also offer programs of study that will equip lay men and women to prepare for various ministries in the Church.
St. Augustine's is authorized by the Holy See's Congregation of Catholic Education to confer the Baccalaureate of Sacred Theology. We are, at the same time, among the founding members of the Toronto School of Theology at the University of Toronto, and are proud to continue our commitment to the pursuit of academic excellence in theological studies within a context of ecumenical dialogue.
In his book City of God, St. Augustine wrote “Divine truth and scripture clearly teach us that God, the Creator of all things is wisdom”. Our hope is that through the various courses and programs at St. Augustine’s Seminary, men and women will experience the wisdom of God and witness to it in an ever-changing world.
Having just celebrated our Centenary year, we look ahead and move forward following in the footsteps of the apostles who shared and taught the gospel of Christ to the world. Allow us to welcome you as companions in your journey of faith. May you find this booklet to be a great resource and a starting point to guide you in your inner call to a faith that seeks understanding!
May God, our light and wisdom shine His light upon your path and lead you to His heart.
With joyful blessings,
Rev. Edwin Gonsalves,
Rector
