Denomination: Anglican Church
The parish of Opawa-St Martins welcomes you to join us.
We have two worship centres, St Marks church (101 Opawa Road) and St Anne’s church (7 Wilsons Road).
Our style of worship is based on that found in a New Zealand Prayer Book 1989. A wide range of music is embraced, mostly using traditional hymns along with music by the Iona Community and that published by the New Zealand Hymn Book trust. The 10:00am service at St Mark’s is a sung liturgy.
We have a strong ministry with children and families. There are usually 40 children in Sunday School at St Mark’s every week, with 90 children on the Sunday School roll. Two youth groups meet, one on Friday nights and the other on Saturdays. There is also a close association with St Mark’s School as this parish founded that school in 1921.
The parish takes pride in its community outreach. There is a group who assist regularly at the night shelter of the City Mission. An active mission committee promotes justice and peace issues to parishioners and beyond. At St Anne’s the parish runs a “mainly music” group for pre-school children and a play group, also for pre-school children.
If you feeling the call of God to deepen your life in Christ, you might like to consider joining one the four house groups who meet for bible study, discussion, prayer and mutual support in following the way of Christ. One of the groups is specifically set up for people to explore their own questions about the Christian faith.
In addition there is a regular programme of preparing people for the sacrament of confirmation and adult baptism. If you would like to inquire about being baptised or confirmed, please contact the vicar on +64 3 981 7384 or e-mail him at [email protected].
