Denomination: Baptist
Lincoln Baptist Church was established in 1876 on land in the village generously donated by Thomas Pannet, a local farmer and Christian leader. In the years between 1876 and 1915, the congregation grew to around 50. But for the years between 1915 and the 1970s LBC struggled for survival, with just a handful of faithful families attending Sunday services which were conducted by temporary ministers, invited speakers and students at Lincoln College.
However, recognizing the opportunities for outreach in a growing area, in 1979 members of the small congregation approached the Canterbury Baptist Association with a vision for the future of the church. As a result of this initiative, the CBA sponsored the appointment of Alistair McKenzie as full-time pastor in 1980. A youth group was soon established, and through the efforts of Alistair and his wife Alison, the congregation began to grow and thrive. Within two years the little church on Gerald Street became too small, and in 1982 LBC moved across the road to the Lincoln Community Centre for its Sunday morning services. The church continued to worship in the Community Centre (and briefly in the Lincoln High School assembly hall) until the long-awaited completion of our Ministry Centre in early 2011.
When Alistair and Alison moved on in 1994, Keith Calder was called to be our Senior Pastor with his wife Janet. On the departure of Keith and Janet in 1999, Kim and Christine Peters joined us and Kim remains our Senior Pastor to this day.
