Liberty Chapel was founded in 1948 by Reverend Dennis C. Garrett & his precious wife, Henrietta. At that time it was in the Little White Church, next door to the present location, which was built DEBT FREE in 1982.
In the lot where the Little White Church stood, now stands our newly completed and also built DEBT-FREE Multi-Purpose Building! With a lovely office for our Pastor - spacious Sunday School Rooms - the most fantastic nursery you will ever see - and a large Fellowship Room and fully equipped beautiful kitchen. We are looking forward to reaching out to the community through this new building.
"Papaw" & Grandma Retta, as they are known by most, at the time they began this work of God had one sweet baby girl, Harriett Denise & a precious little 3 yr old boy, Jerry Charles; who would grow up to be the future Pastor. Papaw was the pastor of a church in California & traveled back "home" to get his bride. They were married May 10, 1942 and returned to California . They were then Pastors in Corning & Hot Springs, Ar. before moving to Malvern.
Papaw has a FANTASTIC TESTIMONY OF GOD'S HEALING POWER! He was told by doctors that he would NEVER walk, after having both feet crushed in a horrible train accident. One word to describe Papaw is PERSEVERANCE!! He simply does NOT use CAN'T or NEVER! He's STILL WALKING TODAY & will be 84 his next birthday! He can STILL Preach the Word of God & STILL does most of the repairs to his rental property.
The Little White Church was known for years as "The Little Church Behind Huckabee's". Folks may not have known the name of that little Church, but all knew it to be a LOVING , GIVING Church! Everyone who has ever walked through the door of Liberty Chapel has been shown that LOVE! Race, creed, or station in life have not meant a thing! ALL HAVE ALWAYS BEEN LOVED THE SAME!
Brother Jerry grew up in Liberty Chapel & married Beverly Walker on May 3, 1966. He worked as a painter & wallpaper hanger to support his growing family. They have five children.The oldest, Jeff, is a Special Agent for the FBI, residing in Mississippi. Dennis, an electrician, resides in Malvern with his three children, Makayla, Zachary, & Makenna. Jenny and husband Rusty have two sons, Benjamin and Joseph.Phillip is in college and works at Body Works.Charity and husband Matt have one son, Garrett.
Brother Jerry has a marvelous testimony of GOD'S HEALING POWER ! Having been afflicted at age 17 with epilepsy,and doctors saying he would go to his grave with the numerous drugs he had to take ...he HAS WALKED VICTORIOUSLY HEALED FOR ALMOST 30 YEARS! Doctors word is NEVER the last word! GOD'S WORD IS A GOOD REPORT!
