Hillside is a diverse, hospitable, inclusive faith community striving to follow the way of Jesus. Our faith is the dynamic core that energizes, transforms, and gives shape to our vision and purpose:
To join God in the renewal of all things.
We put down deep roots in our culture, while modelling an alternative kingdom of God ethic—cultivating an imagination that another world is possible.
“See, the home of God is among mortals. God will dwell with them; they will be God’s peoples, and God will be with them; God will wipe every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; mourning and crying and pain will be no more … See, I am making all things new.” (Revelation 21:3-5)
To foster a deep and hospitable community.
We demonstrate a no-holds-barred willingness to love, listen to, and forgive others; sacrificing our comfort and preferences to do so, and we are generously open and welcoming, especially to strangers or guests.
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength … Love your neighbour as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these.” (Mark 12:30-31)
To cultivate formative holistic habits and practices together.
We desire to deepen our commitment to God, each other, and our neighbourhood. Together we live out an embodied faith, enabling us to notice the love of God flowing into every nook and cranny of our everyday lives.
“All who believed were together and had all things in common; they would sell their possessions and goods and distribute the proceeds to all, as any had need. Day by day, as they spent much time together in the temple, they broke bread at home and ate their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having the goodwill of all the people.” (Acts 2:44-47)
