Denomination: Church of Scotland
Fisherton, Church of Scotland.
Fisherton Church lies at the heart of a rural parish, just south of the historic towns of Ayr and Alloway. The church itself is surrounded by sheep and cattle grazing on lush farmland. And on leaving the church after a Sunday morning service we enjoy looking out across the firth towards Holy Isle and Arran. You can often see the fishing boats coming and going from the local harbour at Dunure, which along with the castle is a local attraction.
Historically the church was built by the faith of the local farming and fishing community. Connected closely to sea, land and sky. Indeed, once upon a time everyone would walk to the church from the local farms or up from the village of Dunure. Now with the passage of time and greater mobility our congregation is gathered from a wider catchment area, which means that our congregation enjoys a lovely diversity.
We like to think that small is beautiful. Welcoming one and all, from babes in arms to the wisest elders we strive to live out our faith as best we can, in a lively and innovative way.
Our focus is first of all to nurture our faith, in worship, reflection and song. And then to make an impact on many concerns, ranging from local youth projects, to being an eco-congregation, and interested in the activity of the world church.
We belong within the wider Church of Scotland, and more locally the Presbytery of Ayr.
We welcome people of all backgrounds, cultures and faith to share with us on our journey in Christ.
