The ministry of First Baptist Church, Oshawa, began in October 1870. In the beginning the congregation met in a hall on the south/west corner of Simcoe and King Streets. Soon afterward they undertook to construct a church building at the corner of King and Prospect (now Mary) streets on the “outskirts” of the built up area of the village of Oshawa. The building was dedicated in February 1872. The congregation continued its ministry there until moving to this present building in March 1958.
First Baptist Church, Oshawa is a member of the Trent Valley Association of Baptist churches, and The Convention of Canadian Baptists of Ontario and Quebec. We also reach out beyond our congregation through Canadian Baptist Ministries and Baptist World Alliance.
We believe the New Testament church to be a voluntary organization of baptized believers meeting together to maintain the public worship of God, to observe the ordinances of the New Testament and to promote the interests of the Kingdom of Christ. We believe Christ to be the only Head of the Church, the Word of God its only authority, and the Holy Spirit it s guide to all truth.
