Denomination: First Baptist
Our Church’s history is traced back to 1895 when students from McMaster University came for summer ministry and established a Sunday School as well as a Bible Study for Women. It wasn’t until 1898 however that a permanent work was established and Rat Portage Baptist Church came into existence. The name was eventually changed to Tabernacle Baptist Church.
When the original building had to be torn down in 1954, the new building was located just up the street at it’s present location at 510 Second St. South. When the new building was opened the name was also changed to First Baptist. We are proud to be following in the footsteps of so many faithful people who have worked tirelessly to live the good news.
First Baptist is affiliated with the Baptist Convention of Ontario and Quebec
