Denomination: Community Church
Faith Community Bible Church began as a Sunday School in 1940, first meeting at the Westside Improvement Club. Worship services were established, and property across “F” Street from our present location was purchased in 1942. In June of 1943 a little white building was moved onto that property and the church became known as “The Little White Church.”
As the church grew in numbers, it outgrew those small facilities and the property upon which our church now stands was purchased in 1946. The name of the church was changed on June 1, 2004 from Navy Yard City Bible Church to Faith Community Bible Church.
The present church building was dedicated in 1951 and a new addition was completed in 1978. Both are evidence of God working through willing people. Written copies of our church history are available from the church secretary.
Our Purpose
The purpose of this church is to bring glory to God as we worship Him and participate in the ministries of worship, edification, and evangelism.
Worship: True worship is both worship in spirit and worship in truth. The corporate worship of the church should be designed to help each person see God for who He is, what God has done, what He commands and what He has promised, and provide an opportunity to respond to that truth with our spirit and our will. True worship is not simply presence but participation.
Edification: The Word of God is at the heart of the ministry of edification, thus preaching and teaching the Word is at the center of our ministry. The final objective, however, is not simply the knowledge of God’s Word, but the incorporation of God’s Word into our lives so that we may become mature and attain Christ-likeness. This takes place as the whole body works together to teach, exhort, rebuke, correct and build-up one another (II Tim. 3:l6-l7; Heb. l0:24-25; Eph.. 4:ll-l6).
Evangelism: Evangelism begins as we pray for those needing Christ, and put action behind those prayers through personal evangelism and programs of evangelistic outreach.
