Denomination: Christian Brethren
OUR BELIEFS
“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instructions in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works” – 2 Timothy 3 v 16-17
We believe that:-
God is all knowing, all powerful, ever-present
He is the creator and upholder of all things
The Bible is the inspired word of God
Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, who was born in Bethlehem; lived a sinless life; died on the cross at Calvary; was buried; rose again from the dead; appeared to His disciples for 40 days; and then ascended into heaven having promised to come again
Mankind is separated from God by sin from birth (Psalm 51 v 5); and by practice (Romans 3 v 23)
It is impossible for man to save himself by his own works “for by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast” (Ephesians 2 v 8-9)
Salvation for mankind has been made possible by the Lord Jesus Christ and is offered freely to all “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16)
Salvation through faith unites man with God and makes the believer fit for God’s presence eternally
There is one God who exists in three equal persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit
The Church is not a building but a group of people. It consists of all Christians who have believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, throughout all time, from Pentecost to when Christ returns at the rapture “we are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord” 2 Corinthians 5 v 8)
In many locations across the world, groups of believers gather together to His name and form a local expression of this Church as it was first seen at Jerusalem. This group of believers, who were maintained by the power of the Spirit, were baptised “Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and in fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers” (Acts 2 v 41-42)
Jesus Christ is coming back again to call to Himself all those who truly believe in Him and take them to heaven (1 Thessalonians 4 v 13-18)
Jesus will one day return to the earth in great power and glory to reign as the King of kings and Lord of lords in perfect peace and equity for a thousand years on the throne of David
We seek to:-
Live lives which are worthy of our Lord Jesus Christ “that ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God.” (Colossians 1 v 10)
Remember Him as He has commanded us to do on the first day of the week at the Lord’s supper (1 Corinthians 11 v 23-26)
Witness of our beliefs so that others might come to a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto Me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)
