How Cornerstone began
The church began in 1954 when a Sunday school was established, meeting in what is now the Leaf Academy (formerly Oakmead School) with over 300 children attending. The current church hall was built while the surrounding housing estate was being developed and was opened on October 13th 1956 as West Howe Baptist Church. In March 2010 the church changed its name to Cornerstone Church as an expression of its mission to build the lives of local people upon the Chief Cornerstone, Jesus Christ (see Ephesians 2:19-22; 1 Peter 2:4-10), and its desire to be a cornerstone of the local community.
Cornerstone Church is a member of the Baptist Union of Great Britain, the Evangelical Alliance, and BAYLink.
