Denomination: Anglican Church
In November 1999, the Bishop of Montreal authorized Christ Church, Sorel, as an experiment in francophone ministry.
Our heritage buildings are at the service of the wider community. The Café Christ Church meets at present every Thursday afternoon in the local volunteer bureau. Soon the restored historic rectory will be its home. There is collaboration with community organizations and the Roman Catholic parishes. Pastoral needs are met through hospital visiting, preparation for marriage or remarriage in the church, pastoral counselling and spiritual direction. Burials take place in our historic cemetery. Open to everyone, the eucharist is celebrated in French at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday with a liturgy taken from the Book of Common Prayer of the Episcopal Church U.S.A. Music and chants come from Taizé, an ecumenical monastic community in France. Lay persons participate as readers, in administering communion, in leading the prayers of the people and in the sermon discussion.
