Denomination: First Baptist
Brooker Baptist Church has been serving God and ministering to the Cottam community for over 130 years. We are affiliated with the Baptist Convention of Ontario and Quebec and Canadian Baptist Ministries.
You may be wondering about our name. Brooker is not a place. The church was named after the Brooker family who opened their home for the first service. At some point in the 1860's William Brooker 'accosted' Brother Richard Herrington who was traveling on horseback from Kingsville to conduct worship in Woodslee. Mr. Brooker wanted to know why the circuit riding preacher didn't stop in the Brooker settlement. He offered his home as the location for a worship service. The house was filled to overflowing and services were continued in the settlement. A log building was constructed in the 1870's and the church was recognized in 1876.
Today we worship in a lovely brick building with an attached Christian Education building that was built in the 1960's. Our building boasts beautiful stained glass windows that were installed in the 1950's. Our congregation is small, but growing. We are always glad to welcome visitors. At Brooker you will only be a stranger once.
We meet for worship on Sunday's at 10:00 a.m. Part way through the service the children leave for Sunday School.
We are in the process of expanding our ministry and would love to have you join us. If you are looking for a church home, we hope that you will consider Brooker.
