Denomination: Community Church
When God gives a mission, He raises up men and women to be in the middle of carrying out the passion and resolve necessary to see that mission become a reality.
West Park Wesleyan Church opened its doors in fall 1978. Good Shepherd Community Church was founded in fall 1998 by Pastor Tom Kinnan. Both churches served well as lighthouses in Johnson County and, through the ministries of both churches, people were introduced to and transformed by Jesus Christ.
In spring 2002, under what we believe was the direction of God, Pastor Densel Ball, who was serving as the pastor of West Park, approached Pastor Tom about our two churches coming together and forming one new church, one that would be even stronger and better equipped to proclaim the gospel. Enthusiasm for this union caught fire and the merger quickly became official in a nearly unanimous vote by both congregations.
Together, we became BreakPointe Community Church. To God be the glory! Overnight, our individual churches doubled in size, and we faced a future filled with the possibilities that only God could and would create!
Over the next three years we continued our efforts to impact our community for the cause of Christ. As a result of strong growth and a great deal of prayer we began a two-year process of evaluating our ministries and the need for additional space. In the Fall of 2008 we broke ground on an 8,000 square foot expansion that would add a new sanctuary and educational classrooms. In addition, our existing facility would be renovated, adding a full-service cafe and coffee shop, updated lighting, wall and floor finishes throughout the building as well as updated kitchen and restroom facilities.
We occupied our new facilities on September 13, 2009 and enjoy continued growth. Our hearts are open to what God has for all of us today and in the months and years ahead. Our future will require that all of us keep our hearts in tune with the Lord and seek His will. Together, by the power of the Holy Spirit, His plan for BreakPointe will continue to be realized.
