Denomination: Orthodox Church
The Assumption of the Holy Virgin Orthodox Church is a small and quaint little church located in Lethbridge, Alberta. It sits quietly nestled in-between two houses in a residential area of the city.
Yet that is not where this Russian Greek Orthodox Church originally started. Years ago, the congregants of Assumption of the Holy Virgin met in the tiny, rented back room of Top’s Pizza restaurant. When the Reverend Aggey Mazur(1885-1970) came from Calgary to establish a church he brought with him the idea of having an actual church to worship in.
In 1965, the parishioners canvased and raised enough money to purchase a Baptist Church and convert it into the Orthodox Church that we worship in today. Our current Priest, Father Anton Ciobanu has been with us since 2012.
