Gaden Choling Mahayana Buddhist Meditation Centre is a refuge of teaching, study and practice of Buddhism in the Tibetan Gelug school of Lama Tsongkapa. The centre offers a friendly and supportive atmosphere for meditation and study, open to all regardless of religious affiliation, ethnicity or gender. Teachings, initiations, weekend retreats, courses and specialized group meditation practices are held frequently at the centre. Our Spiritual Director is Zasep Jamseng Rinpoche, a traditionally trained and fully qualified master of the tradition with decades of experience presenting the Gelug tradition in the West.

In addition to teachings from Zasep Jamseng Rinpoche, we regularly host guest teachers from various Buddhist traditions. Prominent teachers who have spent time and taught at our centre have included: H.H. Gaden Tri Rinpoche, Kyabje Serkhong Rinpoche, Kyabje Song Rinpoche, Kyabje Kalu Rinpoche, Tara Tulku Rinpoche, Lati Rinpoche, female lama Jetsun Kushok Chime Luding, and the Ven. Achaan Maha Ghosananda. We also host teachings and retreats run by senior students regularly throughout the year. Please visit our Classes page to learn more.

Gaden Choling follows the advice of Zasep Rinpoche to continually try and become socially engaged Buddhists, and fundraisers for relief work and other charitable causes are a common element in our programming. A major and long standing affiliate of our centre is Gaden Relief, which has a long and celebrated history of doing health and cultural reconstruction work in Tibet, India and Mongolia. Gaden Choling itself is a charitable organization, run entirely by volunteers, and is able to exist based solely upon the kind donations of those who benefit from the centre. A special way that people do this is by becoming members of the community, which provides a regular and dependable source of income for the centre and is a crucial and wonderful way of supporting it’s continued existence.

Service Times

Our main, ongoing dharma class meets every Thursday evening, usually from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm. These introductory/intermediate level classes explore various dharma topics from Mahayana Buddhism as taught in the Tibetan Geluk tradition. Classes are usually given as part of an extended course, following a traditional curriculum such as Lam-rim or Lo-jong, but students can join the current course at any time. We usually choose a particular book to study, advancing through it week by week. Each class begins with traditional prayers, mantras and meditation practices, followed by discussion of that week’s subject. Please use our contact pageif you need more information.
