Eltham Baptist Church have been gathering together as a church since 1987. For over 20 years, we met in a High School Hall but more recently have moved to our new site on Nyora Rd. “Nyora” is a word meaning “native cherry” and reflects the fact that for many years the area was a fruit orchard owned by Frank Stokes. Many years ago, Frank gifted 10% of it to be used for God’s work. The 12.4 acres where we now meet is a beautiful bushland setting in the heart of Eltham and how we got there is nothing short of a miracle! It’s a beautiful site with a natural amphitheatre that has been used for many memorable events.
The real story of EBC is about people though, and the way in which God has met, grown and used his people to bring his love to others. For this, we give him all the glory. In fact - if you’re ever able to visit with us - you’ll see a sign saying just that. “Soli Deo Gloria” (Glory to God Alone).
Over the last few years we have been intentional about growing in our relationships with God, with one another and as a family. As a result, we see the need to develop the site on which we gather to better house the ministries of the church. Whilst at times we feel our reach is small, we serve a God whose reach is large and feel very privileged to be a part of that both here and overseas.
