Our Church Vision:
Proclaiming Jesus, growing in our faith, caring for others!
Proclamando a Jesús, creciendo en nuestra fe, cuidando los unos a los otros!
Our Statement of Faith
We believe in:
- The only true God who exists as three-in-one; Father, Son and Holy Spirit, who is the creator of all things and who is both holy and good. (Col 1:16)
- Jesus Christ; is both the Son of God and God Himself. He came into the world as fully human because of God's love for us to become the sacrifice for our sins and to reconcile us to God so that we might have a personal relationship with Him. We believe Jesus lived, died on the cross for us, rose from the dead and now lives in heaven with God the Father. (1 Thess 4:14)
- The Holy Spirit; is the presence of God in our lives, our comforter and teacher. The Holy Spirit reveals God's truth and empowers us to live the Christian life. (John 14:15-17)
- God's love for us; that God so loved the world that He gave his only Son so that whoever believes in Him should not perish put have everlasting life! (John 3:16)
- The Bible; that the Old and New Testaments are the inspired word of God given to teach us about Jesus and for instruction on how to live the Christian life. (2 Timothy 3:16)
- Eternal Life, that life with God begins now but also continues beyond death in heaven and that people are rewarded there for their faith in God and their service to Him. (Revelation 20:11-15)
- The glorious and triumphant return of Jesus Christ as King of Kings and Lord of lords to establish the Kingdom of God forever. When He returns He will judge everyone both living and dead according to their faith and their deeds. (2 Timothy 4:1)
- Prayer; that we can freely communicate our needs and thanks to God and that God communicates with us by the Holy Spirit. (Philippians 4:6-7)
- The Church is both the local fellowship of believers and the world-wide Church of Jesus Christ. It is the fellowship of all Christians called to worship God and reveal Christ to others in Christian love and unity. (Ephesians 4:1-13)
- Discipleship; that believers in God are called to become disciples: to grow up in their faith, to do works of service and to reveal God's love to others by the way they live, give and serve. (John 13:12-17)
- Baptism and Communion; that God encourages us to continue the use of these important symbols with adult believers in Christ. (Matthew 28:19, Luke 22:19)
- The Christian Life; that God requires us to live lives of honesty, purity and faithfulness and that we serve God by serving others. (Ephesians 4:1-3)
- Evil; that there is evil in this world whose purpose is to destroy lives and relationships, but that the purpose of God is to bring salvation for our sins and life in all its fullness. (John 10:10)
- Salvation; the Bible says that all people have sinned and fallen short of God's will for their lives. But when we confess our sins to God and ask Him into our hearts and lives, He forgives our sin and adopts us as His own children and comes as the Holy Spirit to live in us and through us. We are born again. (Romans 3:23, 1 John 1:9)
-The Great Commission; that all Christians are commanded to share their faith with others through their words and deeds and in doing so will reveal Jesus Christ and his great love for the world! (Matthew 28:18-20)
Who we are and how we are governed
Who we are:
We are a family of faith that has been around for the last 100 years - faithfully worshipping God and caring for the people in our neighborhood. We are a 'relaxed' evangelical Baptist church - in that, our hope and prayer is that each person discovers for themselves who and what they were meant to be in Jesus. We are a Canadian Baptist Church - affiliated with the Canadian Baptists of Ontario and Quebec (formerly called 'Convention Baptist') of which there are about 365 churches. Together with the three other regions across Canada we are known as "Canadian Baptists." The CBOQ is further affiliated with other like-minded Baptist congregations around the world.
How we are governed:
Dave Snihur is the pastor of our church - however we also have Deacons (elders) and a Leadership Team made up of about 15 people who meet together with him every other month to pray and make decisions about our congregation. On the off months we have three committees that each meet and take care of an important aspect of our congregation:
The Deacons work directly with the Pastor to oversee the programs, ministries and pastoral care of our congregation.
The Finance committee takes care of the income and expenditures of our congregation, as well as maintaining the books and ensuring that tax receipts are promptly issued the end of each year.
The Building and Maintenance committee responsible for insuring and maintaining the building of our church.
Every couple of months we have a townhall meeting with the entire congregation - its our way of involving everyone in the ministry and future direction of our congregation!
As you can see we try and keep the structure of our church as simple as necessary to carry out the work of the Kingdom of God. It is our hope and prayer to expend our energy in serving the Lord by caring for the needy in our community.
The names of all the people who are on the Leadership Team and Committees are available to anyone who asks. You are welcome to go to any of them with concerns or suggestions.
We also have a church constitution that explains all the nitty-gritty of our church operates. You are always welcome to have a copy of this - just ask!
