Community United Church of Christ
United Church of Christ
Community United Church of Christ is a progressive Christian gathering, serving God and humanity by sharing God’s good news, embodying Christ’s loving acceptance and working together for social and environmental wholeness.
Sunday service is at 10:30 a.m. in our new Sanctuary
We are a part of the national United Church of Christ denomination, spiritual descendants of:
the Pilgrims and other immigrants who came to North America to escape religious persecution
those who worked for the abolition of slavery and for racial justice in the Civil Rights movement, and who ordained the first African-American in 1785.
those who ordained the first women as ministers in 1853, and have long worked for women’s rights in society and the church
those who ordained the first openly gay man as a minister in 1972, and have worked for the equality of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender persons in society, as well as their inclusion in the church.
Our church and the wider UCC believe that we don’t don’t have to agree on everything to be in communion and community with one another. We don’t have to have all the answers– in fact, we value our questions and doubts, trusting that they help us to find a more authentic faith.
“Never place a period where God has placed a comma.” Gracie Allen, 20th century American comedian
“There is more truth and light yet to break forth from God’s holy word.” – John Robinson, 17th century pastor to the Pilgrims
We believe that God is still speaking to us today, and asks us to offer God’s extravagant welcome to all, especially those who have felt like they had no place in the church: the excluded, the spiritually homeless and the questioning.
