Church of the Good Shepherd Closes Its Doors After 118 Years
The Church of the Good Shepherd was founded by the Rev. Canon J.J. Mountain.
He was born in Cornwall in 1824 He joined the clergy in 1847. He became a traveling missionary for Mountain Township in 1847. He later moved to Coteau-du-lac where he worked until 1858. He was forced by bad health to retire in 1875, allowing him to spend his time creating the Diocese of Cornwall.
He built a wooden church at Marlborough and First Streets. He called it Mountain Memorial. He was named the church's first rector in 1889.
The wooden church was moved north one lot and the current church was built in 1893.The wooden building became the church hall. The new church was later named The Good Shepherd.
