Christ the Lord
Church of England
Welcome to the Christ the Lord, Broadfield Church
We are a welcoming church and seek to move forward together as a contemporary Evangelical Anglican church. We don‘t claim we have arrived, but we do wish to be a caring community of Christians, with a mixture of ages, backgrounds and life-experiences. Why not come and see us and find a warm welcome in person. Our Service starts at 11.00am each Sunday.
If you look after a baby or toddler please do come and join us at our toddler groups on a Monday or Friday (School term time only).
Monday in the church (9.30am-11.30am)
Friday in the Community Centre Social hall attached the church (9.30am-11.30am)
Also please do come and join us for lunch or tea/coffee at Monday Munch, our Community Cafe in the Community Centre Social hall attached to the church (10am- 12.30pm). It is a place to meet and make friends, to chat with Howard the vicar and Juliette the Parish Nurse.
What We Believe
As a Christian, Evangelical and Anglican Church we believe in:
The one true God who lives eternally in three persons—the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
The love, grace and sovereignty of God in creating, sustaining, ruling, redeeming and judging the world.
The divine inspiration and supreme authority of the Old and New Testament Scriptures, which are the written Word of God—fully trustworthy for faith and conduct.
The dignity of all people, made male and female in God's image to love, be holy and care for creation, yet corrupted by sin, which incurs divine wrath and judgement.
The incarnation of God’s eternal Son, the Lord Jesus Christ—born of the virgin Mary; truly divine and truly human, yet without sin.
The atoning sacrifice of Christ on the cross: dying in our place, paying the price of sin and defeating evil, so reconciling us with God.
The bodily resurrection of Christ, the first fruits of our resurrection; his ascension to the Father, and his reign and mediation as the only Saviour of the world.
The justification of sinners solely by the grace of God through faith in Christ.
The ministry of God the Holy Spirit, who leads us to repentance, unites us with Christ through new birth, empowers our discipleship and enables our witness.
The Church, the body of Christ both local and universal, the priesthood of all believers—given life by the Spirit and endowed with the Spirit's gifts to worship God and proclaim the gospel, promoting justice and love.
The personal and visible return of Jesus Christ to fulfil the purposes of God, who will raise all people to judgement, bring eternal life to the redeemed and eternal condemnation to the lost, and establish a new heaven and new earth.
1. We are a Christian Church
We believe in One God who has revealed himself supremely through his Son, Jesus Christ. To be able to know God the Father we need to put our trust in God the Son, who died for our sins, and accept God the Holy Spirit's work in us.
2. We are an Open Contemporary Evangelical Church
We recognise the authority of the Bible as the Word of God and seek to read it, meditate on it and allow our lives to be transformed according to its teachings. We seek to expound and teach the Scriptures publicly and from house to house. We seek to develop a hunger for the Word of God and to become a people who know their God through its teachings. We believe that our calling is, with others, to bring the Word of God to our town, our region, our nation and to the ends of the earth. We agree with the Evangelical Alliance Basis of Faith.
CPAS (Church Pastoral Aid Society) is our patron.
We believe that God still works through the Holy Spirit to bring about his Kingdom and gives spiritual gifts to his followers. We recognise that ‘the chief end of man is to worship God and enjoy him forever’. We realise that worship is a matter of giving our lives as living sacrifices and as such encompasses all our activity and through praise and intimacy with God we are transformed into God’s likeness. The Church is a body where every member has a part to play. We are called to minister to one another through acts of service and also through spiritual gifts which God pours out on His Church. Whenever we meet, we are expectant that the Kingdom of God will come as people are healed and helped as we pray one for another.
3. We are an Anglican Church
We are part of the Deanery of East Grinstead, in the Diocese of Chichester, part of the Church of England and the worldwide Anglican Communion.
