Denomination: Evangelical Lutheran

What We Believe

What is Christ the King?
Christ the King is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), the largest and most moderate of Lutheran denominations in the USA.

What do Lutherans Believe?
Lutherans are Christians who believe in God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe Jesus Christ is the Word of God, and, through the Bible, God speaks words of correction (law) and good news (Gospel). We cling to God’s promises, that we are saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ. (Eph. 2:8-10) We come to worship expecting God to meet us exactly where we are. We believe that God calls believers to “do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with your God.” (Micah 6:8)

Who are the members of Christ the King?
Over half of the congregation is made of people who were not Lutheran. Many were raised Roman Catholic, Wisconsin or Missouri Synod, other denominations, or didn’t have a strong church background as children. Our members have a variety of family styles – married, single, single parent, etc. 35% of our people are under the age of 20 (hence our emphasis on children and youth programs!) Members live throughout the Fox Valley. We are a place where people of different faith backgrounds have found a new church home.

What is expected of a church member?
To grow as a Christian and follower of Jesus Christ. To that end, the church will help you grow in the spiritual disciplines, such as:

Regular prayer and Bible reading
Regular and faithful Worship
Sharing of your time, abilities, and money to support the work of the church.

Growing Your Faith
Members of Christ the King take advantage of parish and outside opportunities for growth, including day and evening Bible Study, prayer groups, pre-marriage workshops, marriage enrichment groups, new member orientation groups, parenting classes, Promise Keepers rallies and accountability groups, Via de Cristo retreats, and much, much more!

Christ the King’s Mission
To be a Christ-centered people, where members, staff, and pastors share leadership, so that everyone feels needed, and feels like they belong.

Worship

Worship is the foundation upon which we build our faith and our commitment to serve. At Christ the King, we offer a variety of worship styles. Although different in approach, each attempts to help you deepen your faith and relationship with Jesus Christ. Worship here is casual, yet meaningful, refreshing, and empowering. The sacrament of communion is celebrated at all services, bringing cleansing, forgiveness, and the promise of salvation. Worship is at 8:30 & 10:15 am on Sundays.

Liturgical Worship – Sunday morning, monthly.
Liturgy helps us connect with our church heritage, yet we use contemporary music and prayers.

Healing Services – 4th Sunday of the month.
During healing services, you can receive special prayers for situations in either your own life, or that of your friends and family, where healing is needed. It can be physical, emotional, or spiritual healing. We believe God is present and merciful and responds to prayer in powerful ways.

Special Events
We also offer special services throughout the year to enhance the experience of worship. Some of these include services with guest musicians that share a music and faith story.
