Calvary Episcopal Church
Episcopal Church
Parishioners at Calvary Episcopal Church are involved in numerous parish activities as well as outreach in our community. The parishioners care for each other as one big family. Parish life centers around worship service on Sunday which includes participation from acolytes, the altar guild, licensed lay readers, and lectors along with a talented music director and choir. Christian education is a priority with focus on Sunday school programs for children and adults. Guest lecturers are an integral part of the adult education program. The EYC meets on Sunday evenings, and they are active in both local and diocesan activities. During Lent, worship services are conducted on Tuesday mornings followed by a breakfast which is prepared by the Men's Group.
Calvary has both an active ECW and Men's Group. The ECW meets informally each month for lunch and quarterly for meetings. The ECW group has formed TLC, tender loving care, groups which serve on a weekly basis to care for parishioners in time of need. The ECW also sponsors a greenery sale which results in money being used for various projects and outreach. The Altar Guild is an extension of the ECW and committee members serve for one month out of the year. ECW members also prepare baptismal banners for each candidate. Another extension of the ECW is the Knitting Group which meets weekly and knits sweaters for the Guidepost's "Knit for Kids" program.
The Men's Group meets for social activities and business meetings. They sponsor two fundraisers each year with the first being the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper. This event is recognized and participated in by the Cleveland community. The other fundraiser is a hamburger and hot dog booth at the Crosstie Arts Festival. The community looks forward to their "Episco-burgers" each year at this festival. The Men's group uses the money raised to support building projects and outreach. Outreach is a priority of Calvary. One Saturday of each month, parishioners work with the Habitat for Humanity organization on building houses for local residents. This is an ongoing program that has been in place for over 10 years. Other outreach projects include providing personal items to the local homeless shelter, book bags and supplies for school children, and Thanksgiving baskets for needy families. Calvary is a big supporter of the Caritas program, and many children are able to attend because of our support.
