Bovey Tracey is a small pleasant country town known as 'The Gateway to the Moor' and attracts many visitors. There has been, and continues to be, quite a lot of residential building —the population being in the region of 6000.

Bovey Tracey Methodist Church has been on its current site since 1969, although Methodism in Bovey dates back to the early 1800's.

The Church is centrally placed and has ample parking facilities. Services are held morning and evening every Sunday. It is well maintained, has a very pleasant sanctuary, and is well equipped with ancillary rooms, including a moderately large hall, which is widely used by various associations in the town.

We are mainly a retired congregation of about 80, with a small junior church and an active Boys Brigade. It is a very caring and loving church both within its congregation and in the community around it.

We are a part of the local Christians Together and contribute to its times of shared worship, fellowship and outreach and are also committed to engagement with the life of the community. Currently we employ a full-time outreach youth worker on behalf of Christians Together, and this July we are delighted to play our part in Bovey Tracey's Charter celebrations.

We have a fortnightly Wesley Guild which meets jointly with a small moorland church in the Circuit, and there is a good Pastoral Team.

There are three Housegroups, which meet regularly, and the church joins weekly with the four other churches in the town for prayer under the banner of Christians Together in Bovey Tracey, and is an active participant in this ecumenical work. We also meet independently for prayer before the evening service.

We have a weekly coffee morning on Thursdays between 10.00 and 11.30 am. On the first Thursday in the month this is for a chosen charity with various stalls including Fairtrade.

The Church is very aware of its lack of young families in the church on Sundays, though many of them use the premises for Mother and Toddler and Pre-School Groups, all under the auspices of the Church Council. Recently we have joined in a monthly 'Messy Church' at Heathfield, a community linked closely to Bovey Tracey, and we also join in with Christians Together in a 'Holiday Club' using Scripture union material, and normally has some 60 children aged between 5 and 11 years.
