Denomination: Evangelical Free Church
We are an independent evangelical church
We do not belong to any particular denomination and so are truly autonomous; however we enjoy good relationships with other Bible based churches in the area. Our own Leadership Team is responsible for the direction and vision of the church.
We are Bible based
We have an orthodox, evangelical view of Scripture, believing its Divine inspiration and infallibility. Our preaching is firmly based on the Bible as we believe its truths are the only basis for Christian growth and maturity.
We celebrate Communion and Baptism.
We observe two biblical sacraments rooted in the actions and teachings of Jesus Christ: Baptism and Communion. These represent both our inward commitment to a personal relationship with Jesus and an outward sign of our being connected to a local community of Christ followers - the church.
We care for our Members
We believe the care of every member of the fellowship, and those who regularly meet with us, is very important. Members are encouraged to be in Life Groups which meet mid-week where care, study, prayer and fellowship are enjoyed.
We are mission focused
We want to reach our community and the wider world with the good news of Jesus Christ. We seek to keep a heart for those without Christ at the centre of all we do. In October 2004 we began a church plant in Sunderland which is now thriving. In 2012 we became a CAP Centre working with Christians Against Poverty and started a Food Bank Outreach. We have members involved in Street Pastors in Sunderland and a number of our members in full time Christian service, in this country and overseas.
We aim for blended worship
We believe the quality of our worship is important and should be inclusive. We use a blend of music which encompasses the best of both old and new songs whilst ensuring the scriptural truthfulness of the words we sing.
We believe in plural leadership
We have a Pastor and team of Elders who are responsible, under God, to provide vision and leadership to the church. Empowering individual church members to reach their God given potential and become more devoted disciples of Christ is a major focus for the team.
