Denomination: Baptist
Organized 1804 as Maine Baptist Missionary Society
Reorganized 1915 as the United Baptist Convention of Maine
Name changed 1973 to the American Baptist Churches of Maine
The American Baptist Churches of Maine’s priority is “to affirm, support, and challenge congregations as they live out their mission… (Acts 1:8 NIV)” These local congregations are clustered within eleven associations, who define a unique mission area within our state. This associational principle is key to strengthening the mission of local churches as they partner with other local congregations. Each member congregation is autonomous and self-governing in the sense that their mission in its community conforms to the needs of that particular locale. We encourage one another to spread the good news of Jesus Christ to every community in Maine and to the ends of the earth.
